Spartacus' star Andy Whitfield has died

Spartacus" actor Andy Whitfield has died, CNN has confirmed. Fans of Starz Entertainment's original drama "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" know Whitfield because titular gladiator.

İn line with the New york city Times, the 39-year-old passed away on Sunday in Sydney, Australia from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Whitfield leaves behind his wife, Vashti, two children, as well as a sister.

“We are deeply saddened by the lack of our dear friend and colleague, Andy Whitfield,” said Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht inside a statement.


“We were fortunate to get worked Andy in 'Spartacus' and reached know that the person who played a champion on-screen seemed to be a champion in the own life," Albrecht continued. "Andy was an inspiration to all or any of people while he faced this very personal battle with courage, strength and grace. "Spartacus" creator Steven DeKnight shared his thoughts on Twitter, writing, "No words to convey the depth of those a loss of profits. You will end up deeply missed, my pal."

Whitfield rose to stardom for the Starz series, but took that which was intended to be a short-term hiatus after a check-up in March of 2010, the NYT reports. Starz finished up by using a selection of actors for a prequel, "Spartacus: Gods with the Arena" because they waited for Whitfield to come back, but he never became well enough for this.

Australian actor Liam McIntyre was tapped to fill the lead for that second season. Back then, McIntyre commended Whitfield for his focus on the show, and declared that "everybody hurts that he's were forced to throw in the towel that role, myself included."

Whitfield's co-stars are chiming with their condolences at the same time. In your firm stand out on her fan site, "Spartacus" actress (and former "Xena" star) Lucy Lawless is quoted as proclaiming that "Obviously, Andy Whitfield left an indelible mark on many of us inside 'Spartacus' family."

"Andy's incandescent film presence made men want to be him and girls wish to marry him.
